Remembering the Magic of Discipline in Réunion

The Practice, Issue VI

May 24, 2024

Happy Full Moon in Sagittarius! It finally feels like we are out of the thickness and murkiness of the beginning of our astrological year. Maybe you feel like you finally have some time to breathe and plan ahead. I know that for me, it feels like the cloud that has been around me and preventing me from seeing more than 1 month beyond my current plans has finally lifted. It feels surreal to be saying this, but I know what my next year will look like!

But before I dive into that, I want to catch up on what I have been up to! I've been teaching yoga in Réunion for almost a month now, and it has been great to build a relationship with students here and watch their practices grow in such a short time. I truly love teaching yoga and I realized that yesterday was the 10 year anniversary of the day that I landed my first yoga studio teaching job. So much has changed in those 10 years, but the practice has always been there for me no matter what.

Sometimes I feel like I have hallucinated Réunion. Each week, I stumble into a place more beautiful than the last.

And that's what has been the most interesting thing here in Réunion. I have historically always struggled with practice when I don't have a teacher to practice with. Self-practice has been my enemy. I often find myself getting lazy, unmotivated, and uninterested in practicing when I don't have a class to attend and a teacher to be accountable to. I think many of you can probably relate to this -- it can be so hard to be self motivated. But this time has felt different for me. I remembered what I learned while traveling in Hampi: Discipline > Perfection. Sometimes, you have to learn a lesson a few times for it to really integrate. And in the meantime, you need to learn to be kind and patient with yourself.

It almost seems silly to be realizing this 10 years into teaching yoga, 6 years post-PhD, a year into a yoga-guided journey... but here I am re-realizing the same thing over and over again. Motivation is a flame, but weak like a candle and can be blown out easily by something as simple as the wind. But discipline is a flame that we build over time, with hot coals to support us on the days where it doesn't seem as exciting.

What does this mean in a concrete term? Discipline means you have to show up every day and just promise yourself that you will give it a little bit and see what happens. Motivation, I think, is tied to perfectionism and makes us think we have to show up 100% or it's not worth it. But discipline seems to get a bad reputation. It seems like something that is "boring" or only for people who don't know how to have fun. But, what if I told you that discipline is exactly the thing that has brought excitement and joy into my life?

My favorite thing here in Réunion has been the weekly farmer's market, complete with tons of amazing French breads and the most beautiful produce I have ever had. It gives me a great opportunity to practice my French, and live la vie française.

For me here in Réunion, I have found a new pleasure in my practice. I have been showing up every day just to see what happens. And I have surprised myself. I am discovering new things every day-- things I assumed I would need my teacher nearby in order to discover. But he is across the Indian Ocean from me and I am still growing and learning. Curiosity rules my early mornings. It's its own form of magic.

Speaking of Magic, something that has been bringing me so much joy recently is my work with my Nurture Your Magic coaching clients. It feels so big to be able to be the person that I needed when I was starting my self-healing journey. Building discipline and trusting the universe are not things that are easy to just jump into without somebody to guide you. I know I made so many mistakes and lost my path along the way. This month, I was able to attune one of my long-time clients to reiki and she has already been seeing the shift it has made in her life. What a gift to be able to connect with people in this way!

And here's what's next: After Réunion, I'll be spending a month in France, living my childhood dream of seeing Paris and eating fresh baguettes. And then, I will be heading back to India to return to study with my guru in Mysore. I am so grateful to be able to make this magic happen, a true testament to the power of manifestation.

Do you want to live a life that feels more aligned?

Have you tried manifesting but can't seem to follow through?

Are you trying to jump start your spiritual journey but you feel stuck or lost?

Want to trust yourself more and doubt yourself less?

I have spent nearly a decade cultivating the magical practices that have supported me in taking big leaps, setting unbelievable goals, and trusting my inner voice. I am thrilled to announce that I am now opening up space to take on two new clients for my Nurture Your Magic coaching program.

The 12-week Nurture Your Magic Program includes:

💫Weekly zoom meetings to check in, read your cards, set your goals, talk through setbacks, and connect energetically

💫24/7 texting access to ask me questions, discuss homework, check in on progress, and ensure you feel supported

💫Reiki sessions and the opportunity to get attuned to Reiki levels i and ii

💫Tarot readings with me and coaching on how to do your own tarot readings

💫Meditation, breathwork, and yoga postures to support you on your journey

💫Coaching on lunar living, manifestation, goal setting, and aligned living outside of your comfort zone

💫And much more!

The journey to trusting yourself is not a quick one, but it is worth every bit of effort that you put into it. You don't have to do it alone. Let's have a call and see if we would be a good match.

Next time, I hope to talk to you about honing your intuition and what I have learned about self-trust. I hope that sharing these stories has given you some courage to live your life abundantly and beyond the box created by fear and societal expectations.

à bientôt !
